Where to Stay & Eat

Being a modern city, Athens offers a large spectrum of accommodation. From luxury hotels to budget-friendly stays, their are plenty of options available!

Where to Stay Athens

It is important to remember that walking will be a major aspect of your time while staying in Athens. In the summer months and shoulder seasons, the relentless sun combined with walking can also play a factor in your physical quality while in Athens. Because of this, I recommend you be mindful of picking a good location, close to the sites that interest you most when booking your stay. It is also CRITICALLY important for those who need special accommodations for their stay to contact your hotel/host prior to booking. DO NOT strictly rely on information provided by third-party booking sites when it comes to physical accommodations. When researching stays in Athens, a common trend was how information posted on third-party sites was not always accurate when it came to physical accommodations.

MY RECOMMENDATIONS

During our time in Greece, we made two trips to Athens. The first trip was right when we arrived and the second trip was right before our departure. We stayed at two different hotels which I am comfortable recommending.

NICHE HOTEL ATHENS

One of our favorite things to do in European cities is to stay at "boutique" style hotels. What is generally great about boutiques in Europe, is they tend to offer all (or most) of the amenities that you will find at higher-end branded hotels, while offering their own unique flair with a high artisanal commitment to service, food, and architecture. The Niche Hotel falls into this category. The staff was welcoming and provided excellent service when arranging services outside the Hotel. The Hotel also offers a rooftop restaurant (Stork) with views of the Acropolis serving delicious breakfast and coffee included for its guests. The Hotel is also conveniently located close to the Acropolis and Acropolis museum.

MS NOTES  The Hotel is not entirely handicap accessible. The entrance to the hotel features a few steps and is followed by more steps down after leaving the lobby to the elevator.  Some rooms also feature a couple of steps prior to entering the room.

ELECTRA HOTEL ATHENS

The Electra Athens falls more into the category of European Elegance and Style. Located in the heart of the Athens Shopping district, the area is constantly alive with a bustling city feel. The hotel features a rooftop restaurant featuring views of the Acropils. Breakfast was included in our stay.   The staff was welcoming and provided great service when arranging services outside of the hotel.

MS NOTES - The Hotel does not feature steps into the hotel lobby, where the elevators are located. There are also no steps prior to entering your room. The rooms are on the small side, which is common in Europe. Americans may find the room a little cramped compared to the standard hotel room in the States.
